Summary
Professor Landers traces the history of Africans in the United States from 1513-1803. She describes the various forms of slavery and black resistance that occurred in the US under different colonial powers, particularly in the states of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. She also explains how the influence of the state of indigenous peoples, waves of European settlement and immigration, and type of agricultural economy shaped the very nature and institutionalization of slavery in the United States.
