The Unit’s Graduate Commission is responsible for:

I -

establishing the guidelines and watching over the realization of graduate programs;

II -

coordinating pertinent didactical-scientific activities in the context of the Unit;

III -

proposing the structure of new or reformulated graduate programs and specialization courses to the central Graduate Commission (CoPGr);

IV -

proposing the regulation of graduate programs to the CoPGr Chamber of Standards and Resources, observing the terms established in article 55 and the minimum credits required by articles 62, 63 and 64 of this Regimen;

V -

approving the accreditation and reaccreditation of graduate subjects and, in case of lecturers from outside the USP, proposing their accreditation as responsible lecturers to the CoPGr Curricular Chamber;

VI -

authorizing the participation of collaborating lecturers in graduate subjects, in accordance with article 72, § 3 of this Regimen;

VII -

defining, establishing and disseminating the entry criteria for graduate programs;

VIII -

organizing the school calendar for each class period and previously disseminate it;

IX -

setting registration times and terms, informing the CoPGr;

X -

approving the number of places for masters and doctoral programs, per concentration area;

XI -

giving permission for the enrollment of special students, according to articles 94 and 95 of this Regimen;

XII -

deciding about fee charges, according to articles 45, 46 and 53 of this Regimen;

XIII -

proposing the criteria for accrediting and reaccrediting advisors to the CoPGr Evaluation Chamber;

XIV -

establishing a maximum number of students per advisor, respecting the limit of ten set at the USP;

XV -

approving the initial accreditation and reaccreditation of advisors and co-advisors and, in case of lecturers from outside the USP, propose their accreditation to the CoPGr Evaluation Chamber;

XVI -

organizing the annual list of accredited advisors;

XVII -

authorizing co-advisorship per advisor who is already accredited in the program;

XVIII -

deciding on the existence of an academic advisor for new graduate students;

XIX -

approving changes in advisors;

XX -

setting the number of compulsory foreign languages, specifying them and establishing criteria for the proficiency exam;

XXI -

defining the percentage of minimum credits that can be replaced by activities established in article 66 of this Regimen;

XXII -

approving the inclusion of subjects taken outside the USP, according to articles 78 and 79 of this Regimen;

XXIII-

approving students’ requests to enter the doctoral course without having finished the masters course, in accordance with previously established criteria;

XXIV -

establishing criteria for the realization of the qualification exam as part of the doctoral program and, if relevant, as part of the masters program;

XXV -

approving the qualification examination commission that includes renowned specialists from outside the USP teaching staff;

XXVI -

proposing requests for enrollment interruptions to the CoPGr Chamber of Standards and Resources, according to article 59 of this Regimen;

XXVII -

proposing requests for extension of dissertation or thesis deadlines to the CoPGr Chamber of Standards and Resources, according to article 60 of this Regimen;

XXVIII -

defining the form and place where the student in question should hand in the respective dissertation or thesis;

XXIX -

designating full and substitute members who will constitute the evaluation commissions for dissertations and theses;

XXX -

establishing the criteria for evaluating dissertations and thesis;

XXXI -

approving the report of dissertation and thesis defense evaluation commissions;

XXXII -

making pronouncements on requests to obtain the doctoral degree on the basis of thesis defense only, according to article 10 of this Regimen;

XXXIII -

making pronouncements on degree and diploma equivalence and recognition processes;

XXXIV -

proposing the new registration of graduate students who had withdrawn from the program to the CoPGr Chamber of Standards and Resources;

XXXV -

proposing the transference of concentration area to the CoPGr Chamber of Standards and Resources;

XXXVI -

approving the indication of graduate program coordinators;

XXXVII -

making pronouncements on agreements for offering interinstitutional masters programs;

XXXVIII -

exercising other responsibilities that have not been established in this Regimen, which result from standards issued by the CoPGr.



About the Functioning of the CPGs


CPG meetings can only be held when more than half of its members are present, except in case of a third convocation.


The chair of the CPG will lead the meetings and, in case of impediment, will be replaced by his substitute.
